Traffic And Other Cases Informations laid by the police for traffic breaches were dealt with as follows by Mr G. G. Chisholm, S.M., at the Tlmaru. Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Sergeant E. J. C. Hay prosecuted). Driving motor-car without due care and attention. Silas James Black, taxidriver (Mr R. Stout) charge dismissed: Eric John Parker (Mr R. Stout) and Lester William Edmund Mitton, each fined £1 and costs 10/-. Driving motor-cri- without a licence: John Webster Lennon, 10 - and 10 - costs. No warrant of fitness: Lester William Edmund Mitton 5/- and 10 - costs. Cycling without a light: John Paul, £1 and 10/- costs. On the information of Inspector W. J. Tait, of the Transport Department, Maurice O’Connell (Mr L. J. O'Connell) was convicted and fined £1 and 10 - costs for riding a motor-cycle without a licence to drive. He was convicted and fined a similar amount for not having a warrant of fitness. Indecent Language Cecil Peter Charteris, through his solicitor, Mr R. Stout, pleaded guilty to using indecent language within hearing of Rhodes Street on April 20. Sergeant Hay said the incident occurred at 11.35 p.m. when two constables who were making inquiries on another matter heard the words complained of from defendant's house. Two women were passing along the street at the time and must have heard the language. They remonstrated with defendant who used more bad language as the constables left his gate. Mr Stout agreed that the constables had acted with restraint. Charteris had not had a holiday for 10 years and had collected a considerable sum in holidaypay. He had celebrated the occasion and there had been a little trouble about the manner in which he had come home. The Magistrate: Charteris was probably fortunate that he had not been arrested on the spot. Defendant was convicted and fined £1 10/- with costs, 11 Thefts Admitted Failure to account to the New Zealand Army Department at Dimedin for £5 on February 9, £ll 5 - on April 19 and £3 15 - on April 20 last, thereby committing theft, led to the appearance of a man whose name was ordered to be suppressed. Represented by Mr G. J. Walker, the accused pleaded guilty to the three charges. He was convicted

and sentence was deferred for one week to permit the probation officer (Mr R. G. Sampson* to prepare a report.
