ROAD ACCIDENT
Eight Persons Injured
(N.Z.P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 30. Eight persons were injured near Waikumete Cemetery about 11 o'clock this morning wjen a United States service waggon carrying A icklanders to the American Memorial Day service at the United States Forces section of the cemetery came into collision with a flat-top motor truck. Those injured were:— Herbert .de Lange, of Epsom, who was admitted to hospital with concussion. His condition is serious. Mrs Sophie Alberta Rickerby, aged 58, of Mount Eden, admitted with . concussion, condition satisfactory. Mrs Irene Lawford, aged 50, of Epsom, admitted with fracture of the right lower leg; condition fair. Dorothy Evelyn Martin, aged four, daughter of Mr H. W. Martin, o, Archibald Road, admitted with concussion and lacerations. Harold William Martin, aged 29, crane-driver, employed oy the Harbour Board, treated at the casualty department. Mrs Evelyn Martin,, treated at the casualty department. James Martin, aged two and a half years, treated at the casualty department. Miss Max/ Robertson, civilian employee of the TTurd ciexa Depot, United States Marine corps, treatea at the Tamaui depot Dy American medical officials. The station waggon, driven by Miss Rooerisoii, and containing Mrs ivickerby ana Mrs Lawiora, who are prominent memoers oi the Victoria League, and Mr de Lang?, was approaching me Waikumete Cemetery wnen n Became invoivea in a collision with a truck driven by Mr Martin, who was taxing his wife and two children to New Lynn irom their home in Archioald Road. There was a terrific impact wnen the two vehicles met, the crash being heard some distance away. Wha-, assistance that could be given was rendered by people on the scene, and the St. John Ambulance Brigade and the police were notified. The injured were taken to the Auckland Hospital for treatment. The two vehicles involved in the collision were badly damaged, the front portions of each being smashed.
