Mrs R. McCarthy, Hereford Street, Timaru, has been advised that her brother, Private Ross Edmond, Mayfield, who has been a prisoner of war in Germany, is now safe in England. Private E. J. Neale, formerly of Waimate, and son of Mr and Mrs J. W. Neale, Timaru, who was a prisoner of war in Germany, is now safe in England. Mrs G. A. Bennett, Pareora, has been advised that her son, Corporal A. J. Bennett, who has been a prisoner of war in Germany for nearly three years, is now in England safe and well. Advice has been received by Mr and Mrs R. S. Wheeler that their son, Flight Sergeant R. H. Wheeler, R. has been promoted to pilot officer. Mr P. A. Cromic. son of Mr and Mrs A. Cromie, Seadown, had the degree of Bachelor of Arts conferred on him at the capping ceremony at the University of Otago last week. Private advice has been received by Mi- and Mrs T. Henderson, Elizabeth Street, that their youngest son, Private A. M. Henderson, who was a prisoner in Italy and Austria, is safe in England. Reference to the death of Mr H. B. S. Johnstone, of Springbank, Otaio, was made by Major P. H. Johnson at the annual meeting of the Pioneer Park Domain Board yesterday. “He was a foundation member of our board, and his death is a serious loss to us,” said Major Johnson. “He was always so helpful and enthusiastic in all matters pertaining to the preservation of native bush. His great love of trees, wide knowledge and experience, and also his generosity have always been a great help to our board and we looked forward to having him with us for many years to come.” A motion of sympathy with Mrs Johnstone and family was carried in silence.
