Appeals Heard By Board
Scarcity Of Builders Giving evidence as a co-appellant at a sitting yesterday of the 108 Armed Forces Appeal Board, W. A. Petrie read an advertisement from a newspaper for 100 men for building work.
He had attended a conference in Wellington recently, said Mr Petrie, and the scarcity of builders was general throughout New Zealand. In all he had contracts for the building of 31 State houses. From a recent release of men from the Armed Forces there had been only three tradesmen. o::e had gone to Dunedin, another to Wi imate, and one had remained in Timaru.
Mr J. Cooke: You would not like the man you are appealing for manpowered to Wellington? Mr Petrie: I would really fight then. The Board, comprising Messrs K. Mackenzie (chairman), J. Cooke, S. G. McClelland and H. Fleetwood (Crown representative) gave the following decisions:—
