OUTBREAK OF FIRE

Residence Gutted Just before 1 o'clock this morning fire gutted a six-roomed residence in King Street owned and occupied by Mr M. O'Leary. A fire had been lighted in the washhouse during the day, and when the family retired for the night everything was apparently in order. Tire crackling of flames awoke Mr O’Leary, who was sleeping in a bedroom which adjoined the washhouse. After removing his family to safety he tackled the outbreak with a garden hose and dispatched a son to break the nearest fire alarm. The Brigade, under Superintendent E. W. McCann, was promptly in attendance. but fanned by the strong breeze the fire spread through the ceiling and three of the rooms on the northern side of the house were badly charred and the contents ruined. Water and smoke caused damage to the remainder of the dwelling.
