Major-General Howard Carl Kippenberger, who led the Fifth New Zealand Infantry Brigade in North Africa, has been awarded the C.B. in recognition of his gallant and distinguished services in Italy. Major-General Kippenberger commanded the Second New Zealand Division in Italy but he lost both feet at Cassino where he trod on a mine.
