REFERENCE TO MR D. C. KIDD
Prime Minister Amends A remark made .by him in the House of Representatives concerning the manner in which the member for Waitaki (Mr D. C. Kidd) addressed himself to a particular question was referred to by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) in a letter received by the Mount Roskill Road Board. He was replying to a letter from the council taking exception to the remark, which was to the effect that the member “exhibited the mentality of a road board member.” “I note that you consider the comparison to be an insult to local body members,” said Mr Fraser. “While I consider the statement to be a wholly exaggerated point of view, on reflection I am compelled to admit that the reference might be subject to an unfair interpretation. Accordingly, so as to remove any possibility of a reflection of any kind, I am prepared to rectify the matter and to agree that the gentleman In question at the time of the remark did not exhibit the mentality of a road board member.” The chairman of the board, Mr C. M. McCullough, stated that the word “insult” was not used in the board’s letter, and the Prime Minister’s reply was formally received.
