WINCHESTER

School Break-up The annual sports meeting and prize-giving of the Winchester School was held on Wednesday before a large attendance of the public. As the weather looked so unpromising, the sports were started before lunch, most of the Infants’ events being run og in the forenoon. An early start with the senior events saw the programme practically completed when rain caused a hurried adjournment to the classrooms. The senior running cups were won by Alan Jackson and Nona Horan, Murray Ashton and Eleanor Trumper being runners-up. Before partaking of afternoon tea, Mr Trumper, chairman of the School Committee, extended a welcome to all present and briefly reviewed the work of the year. He apologised for the absence of Mr J. De Renzy, who was absent for the first time for many years from a school break-up. He then presented the special prizes as follows’ Dux of School. —Alan Jackson. Challenge Cups, running.—Nona Horan and Alan Jackson. Tennis Cups.—Bernadette Fergusson and Murray Ashton. Sewing Prizes.—Senior: Amy Halliday (darning), Eleanor Trumper (patching); junior, Lorna Stonehouse, Ann Baker. The honours list is: Form II.: Dux.
