WIDER PUBLICITY
Aspects Of Australian Life
SYDNEY, September 28.
Appreciation of the value to Australia of judicious publicity is evident in recent discussions to appoint Press attaches to the expanding number of Australian Government representatives abroad, to open new offices of the Department of Information and to dispatch overseas experts who will lecture on picturesque and attractive aspects of Australian life. The plan is a full-scale effort to ensure adequate Australian publicity organisation abroad, not only in the United States, Great Britain and in the sister Dominions, but in all friendly foreign countries. “It joins admirably with the brighter conception of the methods and purpose of advertising Australia as a mecca for the tourist, and a home for the migrant,” comments the Sydney “Sun” in a leading article to-day. “The war, and the painful shortage of manpower made evident by its stresses, has shown Australians the vital need for greater population than our natural and diminishing rate of increase can provide. Any means by which the attraction of our country can be blazoned abroad, therefore, must be widely approved." Money to finance the new scheme will be provided to the Department of Information in the - supplementary estimates and the organisation will proceed in the sure anticipation of Parliamentary approval.
