HILTON Tire Spring Flower Show of the Hilton Women’s Institute was held in the hall. Mrs Stone-Wigg, of Winchester. gave an address on “Gardening Through the Ages” for which she was accorded a vote of thanks. The competitions resulted: —Bowl of Narcissi: Mrs Beaven 1, Mrs Scott 2; bowl of Polyanthus: Mrs Bea van 1, Mrs Fletcher 2; bowl of Primroses: Mrs Parish 1. Mrs Beavan 2; bowl of Violets: Mrs Htill 1. Mrs Beavan 2; bowl of Anemones: Mrs Fletcher 1, Mrs Beavan 2; bowl of Flowering Shrubs: Mrs Beavan 1, Mrs Scott 2;. three Hyacinths: Mrs Beattie 1, Mrs Parish 2; three Violas: Mrs Fletcher 1, Mrs Beavan 2; three Primulas: Mrs Twomey 1, Mrs Parish 2; champion Narcissi: Mrs Twomey; champion Polyanthus: Mrs Fletcher; floating bowl: Mrs Fletcher 1, Mrs Beavan 2; lady’s spray: Mrs Brenton 1, Mrs Beavan 2; gent’s buttonhole: Mrs Brenton 1, Mrs Beavan 2; best small bloom: Mrs Geddis 1, Mrs Fletcher 2; best large bloom; Mrs Parish 1. Mrs Twomey 2. Cooking—Pikelets: Mrs Beavan 1, Mrs Jones 2; plain scones: Mrs Beattie 1, Mrs Hall 2; girdle scones: Mrs Jones 1, Mrs Beattie 2; jam tarts: Mrs Brenton 1; shortbread: Mrs Jones 1, Mrs Beattie 2; sponge sandwich: Mrs Scott 1, Mrs Jones 2; sultana cake: Mrs Scott 1, Mrs Jones 2. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Wilks and Parish.
