BONDS OF FRIENDSHIP
Britain And Belgium (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. Copies of messages exchanged between Prince Charles of Belgium and King George have been received by the Consul-General for Belgium at Wellington. Prince Charles’s message stated that he desired to inform his Majesty personally that his wellbeloved brother, King; Leopold, was being held in captivity and he had l:?n elected Regent. “At the moment when I assume these high functions I take pleasure in renewing to your Majesty an expression of the deep and loyal friendship which always has united the King of our house to your Majesty and his august family.” The message also assured the King of Belgium’s warm affection for the British Commonwealth. His Majesty, replying, said, he was confident that the bonds of friendship between the two countries would be safeguarded and maintained during Prince Charles's regency and in the years thereafter when King Leopold had once again been reunited with his nation. He and his subjects were united in their joy at the liberation of Belgium, and fervently hoped for Belgium's speedy return to a happy, secure and peaceful existence.
