Servicewomen
Women were being discharged from the Australian Army Services at more than twice the rate of enlistments, said the Minister of the Army (Mr F. M. Forde), commenting on a request for the release of women from the Services to meet manpower shortages in industry. He said that all the women’s army services were below their war establishment strengths, and the deficiency was causing a severe strain. The main reasons for the discharge of women from these services were marriage, medical unfitness and compassionate grounds.
