TEMUKA REHABILITATION

Provision Of Land For Ex-servicemen Sub-committee Appointed To Survey District A general survey of the South CanI terbury area to ascertain the farming situation from the point of view of rehabilitation and the possibility ot taking and subdividing specific parcels of land for use by ex-servicemen is being made by the Rehabilitation Department, and the assistance of the Temuka Rehabilitation Committee has been asked to supply information relating to the Temuka district so that the position can be considered by the Timaru District Office of the Rehabilitation Department in conjunction with the Farming Sub-committee, the Lands and Survey Department and the State Advances Corporation. The request was made in a letter from the District Rehabilitation Officer i Mr V. Moore) received at the monthly meeting of the Temuka Rehabilitation Committee and, on the motion of Messrs W. H. McMillan and L. Story, a sub-committee consisting of Messrs G. A. Harris and G. H. Mulligan was set up to bring down a report. Other matters discussed were the rehabilitation of women members of the Forces, the extension of rehabilitation loan facilities, supplementary loans and the payment of separation allowances to servicemen returned to New Zealand with dependants overseas. Victory War Loan A number of new members were welcomed by the chairman (Mr L. F. Robins) at a meeting of the Temuka Victory Loan Committee. Canvassers W'ere appointed to each of the eight zones into which the Temuka district has been divided. The Waitohi district will fee covered by Mr T. L. Bussell, Budd’s Settlement and Winchester township by Messrs E. Turner and F. J. Robertson, Sputh Milford by Mr 1... A. Nicholas, North Milford by Mr W. Hewson. Orakipoa by Mr L- F. Robins. Kakalill and Winchester Settlement by Mr A. Hewson, Orton by Messrs W. H. McMillan and E. Blackmore, and CJandeboye by Mr G. A. N- Boldcrston. Other canvassers will be appointed later, making two for each zone. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs J. Gourley, W. F. Evans. H. B. Strange, and T. R. Saywell was formed to select prospective investors in the town area with a view to carrying out a canvass.

On the motion of Mr P. Metge, it was decided that a shop be hired in King Street for the purpose of selling bonds and that two sellers be appointed to take charge. It was decided to ask all shops to close from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on Thursday, September 14. when the Bond Waggon will visit Temuka. Plunket Society At the monthly meeting of the Temuka Plunket Committee, presided over by Mrs A. S. Mclnnes, the report of the nurse showed that 66 babies. 44 pre-school children and 80 adults had visited the Temuka rooms during the month, and 38 babies, 13 pre-school children and 40 adults the Pleasant Point rooms. Visits had been made to 168 old cases and 30 new cases. The number of babies on the books was 179.

Bobby Calves The total number of calves collected by the South Canterbury Calf Pool Committee this week was 232, compared with 257 for the corresponding collection last season.
