R. Wilson is in hospital, where he is now making good progress. C. Emerson has made a start on the two-year-old filly, Acquitted, by Solicitor General from a sister to tire Grand National winner, Nocturnus, by Night Raid from Victory Lass. She is owned by Mr H. N. Spence, of Central Otago. Mr Spence did well last season with Periwig, who will return to Emerson later, after a spell on the spring grass. The North Island grey, Findon. who was left at Riccarton after the Grand National meeting, with the idea of doing his early spring racing in Canterbury, has shown signs of soreness. He is' engaged at Ashburton but his programme will depend on how he fares during the next few days. L. Cavalier has Centime doing well and this Defaulter filly is booked to run in the John Grigg Stakes at Ashburton. DEATH OF MB D. J. MALONE (N.Z.P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 5. The death occurred at Stratford today of Mr Daniel Joseph Malone, aged 70, a former North Island and Taranaki Rugby selector. He was a former president of the Taranaki Rugby Union and of the Stratford Racing Club. He was the Taranaki District Club's representative on the New Zealand Racing Conference and a member of the New Plymouth Harbour Board.
