DANISH STRIKE OVER

Agreement Reached On Demands No Reprisals By Telegraph—N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright LONDON. July 2. The general strike at Copenhagen has ended, following an agreement between the German commander at Copenhagen and the municipal authorities, also employees, trade unionists and leaders of political parties, says the British United Press correspondent at Stockholm. The Stockholm correspondent of the “Exchange Telegraph" says that the Danish authorities appealed to the people to resume their normal occupations, and that gas, electricity and water supplies have already been restored. The Germans have withdrawn the military cordon that was around the city and have released Trade Union leaders arrested earlier, but the curfew has not been lifted and meetings and other gatherings are still banned.

It was reported earlier that the Germans were rushing reinforcements into Copenhagen to quell serious riots in the city. Angry Danes yesterday lynched three members of the Schalburg Corps. Crowds and Danish patriots assembled outside King Christian’s palace. _ The correspondent of the Swedisn News Agency at Copenhagen reports that the Danish Council of Liberty appealed to Sweden to put diplomatic pressurs on Germany to accept her four demands. The strike will be continued if the demands are not satisfied. The demands are:— (1) The abolition of the Schalburg Corps of Danish Nazis or removal of its members from Denmark, as the Danish authorities are unable to do this for themselves. (2) The abolition of the curfew (it was stated in Stockholm that the curfew was Imposed by the Nazis in Demnark without reference to the German authorities in Berlin). (3) The opening of Copenhagen’s supply routes and restoration of the supplies of water and electricity. (4) No reprisals for the strike. An official of the Swedish Foreign Office said that Sweden was officially cognisant of the Danish appeal, but was unable to make any announcement until she had time for more mature reflection. The spokesman suggested that the Danish appeal indicated chaotic conditions in Copenhagen.
