FAIRLIE FAREWELL SOCIAL

Mr E. J. Robertson Honoured Before leaving Fairlie on promotion to Invercargill, Mr E. Jl Robertson, who has been Stock Inspector at Fairlie for the last eight years, was the guest of honour at a social held in the AOrangi Hall on Thursday. Mr T. B. Crampton, president of the Farmers’ Union, who was voted to the chair, said that Mr Robertson had carried out his duties in an efficient and tactful manner. All were sorry at his removal from the district, but were pleased to know that he was getting well earned promotion. Mr Robertson’s relations with farmers had always been pleasant, even when visits concerned rabbits or other pests that had to be dealt with. In asking Mr Robertson to accept a well-filled envelope as a mark of appreciation from his many friends in the district, Mr Crampton extended the best of wishes to Mr and Mrs Robertson and family in their new sphere, and expressed a hope that they would have the pleasure of seeing him back in Fairlie occasionally. The remarks of the chairman were endorsed by Messrs A. Pryde, T. Dobson, F. C. Isitt, Jas. O’Neill, J. A. Fraser, M. Pringle. J. Anniss, J. Macdonald, J. S. Wilson, A. Freme, T. Round. J. J. Page. K. Anderson and j P. Cunneen. Mr Robertson thanked all for their kind remarks and made special mention of the help always accorded him bv the stock agents of the district.. A long toast list was honoured, and during the evening songs were contributed by Messrs J. V/. Dick, Jas. O'Neill, P. James, J. Macdonald and T. Dobson. There was a large gathering of women in the Presbyterian Hall on Thursday, when representatives of the Red Cross, the Presbyterian Church, staff of the Fairlie District High School, and Fairlie Ladies’ Golf Club, met to say farewell to Mrs E. Robertson. Mrs M. Pringle presided. Mrs J. C. Isitt representing the Red Cross, made a presentation to Mrs Robertson, and thanked her for the work done on behalf of the Sub-Centre. The Rev. J N Reid spoke on behalf of St. Columba congregation, and Mr A. Withers on behalf of the school staff Mrs Pringle then m.’de a presentation to Mrs Robertson on behalf of the various organisations she had been connected with, and extended the best wishes of all for her future.
