Trouble At Obai
(N.Z.P.A.) INVERCARGILL. Jan. 14. As a result of some misunderstanding the workers at the Star Mine, Ohai, ceased work and returned to their homes this morning. The cause of the misunderstanding was brought about by the suspension of a coalminer yesterday, when, it is believed, there had been some dispute about wages.
Tire matter was dealt with this morning by the secretary of the Miners’ Union, the manager of the mine, and the miner concerned, but the workers did not wait to hear the decision and returned home.
The men will return to work on Monday morning.
Workers at the Linton coal mine held a stop-work meeting on Wednesday morning to discuss various mining matters. After a discussion lasting more than two hours, they decided to terminate work for the day. Work proceeded normally yesterday.
