WAIMATE BURNS NIGHT

Concert Arranged “Burns Night” will be celebrated by the Waimate Caledonian Society oh January 25. Arrangements for the function were further advanced at a meeting of the executive of the Society, when Mr F. J. Henshaw (president) was in the chair. Present were Messrs A. J. Hoskins, A. R. Cooper, J. Borthwick, W. A. Dunstan, J. H. Betten, A J Hawke. A. A. McKenzie, T. D. Dunstan, A. J. Mcßae, D. Macdonald, J. Borthwick, and the secretary (Miss M. Kilworth). The president, who extended a welcome to Mr Hickins, said that it was most gratifying that he was attending executive meetings after his illness It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mr E. McPhail, who was unable to attend owing to sickness in his family. Mr Macdonald presented a report on behalf of the programme committee for the Burns Night function. He said the programme for approval was to open with the National and Scottish Anthems, followed by the president’s welcome speech, pipe selections, songs national dancing, an address on Burns bv Mr R. Munro, interspersed with Burns recitations and songs by Messrs G. Hutton and J. Borthwick. This would be followed by further recitation.? and songs, and the programme would conclude with the niping in of the haggis. Mr J. Borthwick had been selected to address the haggis. The programme was'adopted by the meeting. Arrangements were also made for the dance which will conclude the function.
