RICCARTON NOTES

(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 13. D. Cotton leaves to-night with his two horses for Trentham. Some Sing has speed but her race form does not impress. Te Awe Awe is very well and having won at nine furlongs must be kept in mind over a longer journey. J. Williamson will ride her again. C. H. Humphries has left with Qulf Stream, but though he has done well lately he has not done enough work to be at his best. C. T. Wilson will ride him about 71b overweight. F. D. Jones has only Scottish Dale for the first day at Trentham and he expects her to race well. Trueway has gone with her and is a good second day prospect.

The two-year-old Pensacola did some smart sprints before he left and he is at the top of his form. F. Christmas has gone north to look after Good Scout, his only candidate at Trentham on Saturday. Though still racing unluckily he is due for a ,win at any time as he is reported to have done well since he went to the North Island for the holiday racing. Wise Girl, who is booked to race on the second day at Trentham, is in great health. It was intended to send Gunga Din with her but one of his hind legs has been causing trouble, so he may have a rest. L. J. Ellis will ride Macedoine, Good Scout, Sir Bradbury and Pensacola, while A. Messervy will be on Palfrey and John Gay. Hearth and Bridgehead did not leave last night for Trentham, their space being cancelled.
