INTEREST IN SPORTS PROMOTED

Pupils Leaving School

Information concerning the sporting activities and preferences of pupils leaving school is forwarded by the Education Board to the sporting association concerned, Mr P. W. Young told a meeting of the South Canterbury Council of Sport last night. In the case of junior tennis players, said Mr Young, when names were received by the South Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, players were allocated to the clubs nearest their place of residence. Club committees and intending players were advised of this arrangement and membership effected.

The same applied to swimming, said Mr A. C. Rippin. These details were given in reply to a question by the Rev. Clyde Carr, M.P., as to what provision was made to encourage pupils leaving school to continue with some sporting activity.
