(Special’ CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 11. F. A. Roberts will leave to-night for Trentham, taking John Gay, Irish Note, Arustra and Bascule, who look well after their holiday racing in the south. In spite of recent failures, John Gay may race well on the trip. Bascule is engaged only on the second day, but

the original idea to keep him here till next week had to be changed owing to transport problems. R Wilson will go north to-night with the two-year-old Pensacola. He has two engagements at Trentham on Saturday, and if reserved for the handicap he will have many supporters from here. Gamble’s form at southern meetings in the holidays was not up to expectations, and his trip to Trentham has been cancelled. R. Wilson will give him a short spell. The Washdyke trainer. E. J. Ellis, wrs at the track this morning with Abdicate, who will leave to-night for Trentham. G. Barr has been engaged to ride him in the liighweight on Satur- & No riders have been engaged yet for Sal’s Pal and Sister Sal, who will leave to-night for Trentham, under the care of J. B. Cochrane. The plans made for Amorlad have had to be changed. One of his legs has shown signs of trouble and instead of going to Trentham this week it is probable he will require a spell. Honest Sal was galloped on in the last race at Wingatui on Saturday and she may have to miss the trip to Trentham. It is reported here that The Joker. Lord Nuffield. Lady Nuffield, and Georgia will not fulfil their Trentham engagements.
