PLAGUE OF LOCUSTS

Whole Countryside Stripped CHUNGKING, August 23. Huge swarms of locusts stripped the countryside bare in 10 large counties ia Honan Province which ordinarily are fertile, but where a disastrous famine occurred last year. Ernest Wampler, representative of the American Advisory Committee, said that the locusts left absolutely nothing green, only a yellow desolate land th their wake. Twenty-eight million peisons are affected. Mr Wampler added that last yeai starving peasants ate the bark frpm trees, grass and weeds, but t.us yetfi even the trees are stripped. Nothing edible remains. Only food from t.v? outside can prevent further wholesale deaths.
