Protest Against Small Increase The Mayor of Timaru. Mr A E. S. j Hanan, has written to the Rev. Clyde | Carr. M P., supporting Mr T. Megann. 1 President and organiser of the Social i Security Age Pensioners’ Association, i in his protest against the increase of I only 1 - a week that has been made I in the old age pension. Tito letter continues t am entire v in sympathy with this protest and consider that the provision of a pension of 31 6 is not sufficient for old I age nensioners. The Mayoress, who deals with the Mayors Community Benevolent Fund, informs me that some of these old age nensioners who have called on her for assistance show signs of undernourishment. and I am sure that you will agree with me that something more should be done and that it should not be left to charity to provide for these old people.”
