SPELL BROKEN
U-boats Off East Coast Of U.S.
(Rec. 6.30 p.m.) NEW YORK. April 10. The reappearance of enemy submarines off the east coast of the United States after an absence of seven months was disclosed when the Navy announced that a medium-sized American merchantman was torpedoed early in April. Forty lives were lost, including the captain, all the ship’s officers and nine members of a naval gun crew. The ship burst into flames and sank in three minutes.
