Inspection By Magistrate PALMERSTON NORTH, April 10. When a case came before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court, in which a publican was chaiged with serving liquor to two young men under the age of 21, the men concerned were brought before the Magistrate so that he could form an opinion as to their age.
Counsel for defendant commented that they were differently dressed from the time when the barman in the hotel served them. They were in their working clothes then and, as they were employed carting coal, their faces were not clearly visible.
The Magistrate stated he would judge one of the men to be apparently 21. but not the other. “These men, after all, are only exhibits,” said Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre. Following a further discussion, the Magistrate adjourned the case in order that he could see the men as they appeared after a morning’s work
