ESK VALLEY Mrs Mills presided over a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Esk Valley Women’s Institute. The president and officers appointed in 1942 agreed to continue in office for another year. Interesting correspondence and acknowledgments were read from sons of members now serving overseas. Further plans were made for the dispatch of soldiers’ parcels. Arrangements were made for the children’s carnival to be held at St. Andrews in May and for a complimentary party to Mrs Arps. Misses Nancy Toohey and Doreen Stowell were appointed delegates to the annual meeting of the Waimate District Federation in Waimate. A report, of Red Cross work was given by Mrs Stowell and material for sewing soldiers’ comforts handed to members. Mrs A. M. Copland won most points for the year’s competition for a specimen bloom.
