“TE TAWA”
Splendid Situation IDEAL FOR CONVALESCENT SOLDIERS Built in 1908 for Mr Arthur Hope of Raincliff, but for many years the home of the late Mr and Mrs W. T. Ritchie, "Te Tawa, Taiko, has now been accepted by the Timaru Centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society for conversion into a convalescent home for servicemen. Situated about five miles from Timaru, the residence is one of the finest in South Canterbury, and. of the 27 acres of land, a considerable portion is laid out in grounds, flower and kitchen gardens and tennis court. The house commands a fine view of the coastline and surrounding countryside. At the entrance there is a fiveroomed cottage, and the house itself, which is built of brick, contains 10 rooms on the upper storey and seven on the lower, with two bathrooms upstairs. All of the rooms are a good size, but three downstains are particularly large, including a billiards room. There arc several rooms attached *o the kitchen, drying room, vegetable and fruit rooms, etc., so that the house is ideal for a hospital for convalescents. With minor alterations, if any at all are required, the Timaru Centre anticipates being able to accommodate 30 convalescents. There are garages and many outhouses which may also be utilised.
