REAL DEMOCRACY MOVEMENT
Officers Elected The first annua! conference of the Real Democracy Movement was held at Lower Hutt when delegates from throughout New Zealand attended. Unanimity was reached on all matters of policy and administration, and the following officers were elected: —North Island Executive: Mr C. F. Claasen, Rawene; Major R. O. C. Marks, D.C.M., Wanganui; Mr F. Allen. Auckland; Mr F. D. Danks, Auckland; Mr R. G. Young. Hamilton (secretary). South Island Executive: Mr F. Whiley, Christchurch (president); Mr A. E. Willyams, Christchurch (secretary); Mr W. B. Brockie, Christchurch; Mr H. B. Parkin, New Brighton; Mr R. J. Henderson, Invercargill. It was noted that nearly 50 per cent of the executive were returned soldiers. The conference protested against the treatment of men now returning to New Zealand, and affirmed that as a first instalment of post-war reconstruction every man returning should be assured an income at least equal ot the basic wage until re-absorbed into civil employment.
