FEDERAL WAGES TAX
Yield Of £40,000,000 Expected (Rec. 8 p.m.) CANBERRA, Jan. 27. The new Federal wages Tax, in addition to the existing Income tax, will be imposed on Incomes of from £lO4 a year. The first deductions for the new tax will be made from April 1. The extra taxation will start at Gd in the £ and will increase to a maximum of 1/6 in the £. Tlie revenue, which is expected to amount to £40,000.000 a year, eventually will be used mainly for new social services, but temporaril will be used to assist in financing the war.
