FIRST ANNIVERSARY
Landing Of U.S. Troops In Ireland LONDON. January 26. The landing of United States Troops in Northern Ireland was commemorated in Belfast to-day, which was the first anniversary. The Prime Minister (Mr J. M. Andrews) described the landing as an occasion of historic and world-wide importance, signifying the determination of the English-speaking peoples, with the other United Nations, to free the world from the tyranny of aggression. A message from President Roosevelt stated: “Things have changed greatly in these 12 months. We think no longer of defence —that is past. Now, henceforth we think of smashing attack—determined not to retreat. Our troops anti those of the United Kingdom, Canada, the other Dominions and their Allies have chafed at the inaction. They will get action The road to Berlin is long and hard, but it is very sure.”
Britain’s War Minister (Sir James Griggi said that he hoped the Americans would become more than just Allies and be comrades in arms.
