Patrol Encounters (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Jan. 9. A joint Indian communique issued this morning states—“ Our troops In the Arakan district are in contact with the enemy on either side of the Maya River, both in Mayu Penlnusla ar.l in the vicinity of Rathendaung. Occasional encounters have taken place in the last few days. Yesterday Blenheims escorted by fighters attacked objectives in this area. Enemy occupied buildings near Rathendaung were bombed and machine-gunned. The fighters made low level attacks on motor transport. Several vehicles were damaged and two destroyed. Some Japanese soldiers were killed. Last night our bombers attacked places in the Akyab district, bombed the Babaing aerodrome and anti-aircraft positions at Fakir point, also Japanese occupied villages. Bursts were observed well in the target area. None of our aircraft is missing.”
