ENGINE TROUBLE
Tasman Flying-boat (-'->C. 9.451 SYDNEY. Jan. 10. The Tasman flying-boat from Auckland reached Sydney last week with one engine out of action. There were 17 civilian passengers aboard. The flying-boat was well on its journey when trouble developed in the outer starboard engine and the plane began to lose height. Messages indicated that the plane was able to continue its flight and aircraft from the Australian mainland put out to meet it. They escorted the flying-boat to Sydney, where it arrived two hours late. Passengers said that soon after the engine failed the flying-boat went so low that it seemed to be skimming the waves. Later it gained a height of about 600 feet with three engines working.
