MIST AND FOG
Bombers Hampered (Rec. 6.30) LONDON, Jan. 9. Sir Stafford Cripps, in a speech today, said some people might have thought the Intensity of the bombing had rather fallen off in the last two months. It had not been as heavy as the Government or the Commander-in-Chiel Bomber Command, would have liked. This was due to the season of mists and fog which should now be passing and enable a more extended delivery of bombs over Germany and Italy. Sir Stafford Cripps, who was speaking to aircraft workers, emphasised the importance of their job as part of the war effort. “We are fighting not only to save our freedom and democracy.” he said, “but also to get a better and more equitable set-up than we had before in our industries, homes, education and other phases of life. In this battle we are part of a great team. We are associated with the designers, technicians and workers in the vast aircraft factories in Russia. This adds to the responsibility and honour of our task.”
