PHOSPHATE DEPOSITS
Inspection By Minister DUNEDIN, January 9.> The Minister of Agriculture, Mr J. G. Barclay, paid a visit of inspection to the site of the phosphate deposits at Clarendon yesterday afternoon. In an interview last night, he said that the Mines Department was at present engaged, with varying results, in boring operations on the big hill which was the site of the low content deposits. Development and boring operations were also being carried out on the old site, which had previously been worked by the Ewing Phosphate Company and was now being prospected by the British Phosphate Commission, the Minister said. He added that no large development works would, of couse, be carried out until the boring operations were far enough advanced to enable the authorities to be sure of the ground.
