KINDERGARTEN INJURED

(N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jail. 8. Advice was received by the secretary of the Wellington Racing Club this afternoon from the owner of Kindergarten, Mr E. N. Fitzgerald, as follows: "Please scratch Kindergarten. Sorry. The horse struck himself and will be out for a few weeks."

The Great Northern Derby winner, Indian Princess, was galloped on during her last race as a two-year-old, and so badly cut that it was feared she might be unfit for further racing. Indian Princess, who is trained by H. E. Gray, comes from the illustrious Hebrew Maid family, being by Bulandshar from Love of Silver. Love of Silver is by Silverado from Amourette, by Psychology from Lovelock, by Martian from Lovelorn. Amourette is a sister to Cupidity, dam of the Melbourne Cup winner Skipton. Lovelock was a sister to Menelaus (New Zealand Cup), Nones (Wanganui Guineas', Lovematch (Hawke’s Bay Cup and Wanganui Cup), and to Left, dam of Wotan (Melbourne Cup), Peter Jackson (Moonee Valley Gold Cup) and Gaine Carrington (Caulfield Cup), also a .sister to Dominant, dam of Beau Vite. Many other good winners descend from Hebrew Maid.

Three-year-old form has been very confused in the north this season, and it is not safe to rate the Derby horses on the result of one race. If Indian Princess were to be accepted as the best in the north, then a filly would be on top in both islands at the moment. Meeting Botany on worse than weight-for-age terms. Macedoine beat him more decisively than Rink did in the New Zealand Derby. Since then she has won the Wyndham Cup and finished second in the Invercargill Cup with B.3—a much better performance than Rink's third in the Manawatu Cup with 7.11. It was unfortunate that Macedoine was not in the Oaks, as the little Southland mare would have toyed with the weak collection of fillies that contested that race. Donnybrook Fair is of better class than any of the horses above him in the Waihola Handicap, but his trick of running “off the course” makes him a doubtful prospect. After being hemmed in in the highweight at Wyndham, Forte failed by only half a head to catch Amor Lad, who won again at Invercargill. Then in the Avenal Hurdles, after hitting the second last fence. Forte came on to win. That form gives the Valkyrian mare more than an outside chance at Wingatui.

Following are the weights for the Wellington Cup: Kindergarten 10.10, Royal Lancer 9.3, Lou Rosa 9.0, Beau Leon 8.11, Gladynev 8.10, Regal Fox 8.8, Battledress 8.8, Happy Ending 8.6, Yogi 8.3, Centrepoise 7.12, Foxola 7.11, Enrich 7.3.
