RESERVIST CHARGED
Alleged Breach Of Regulations
Charged with failing to notify his change of address after having enrolled as a reservist under the National Service Regulations. 1940. Leslie Henry Cook labourer, aged 23 years, appeared before Mr H. Morgan. S.M., at the Timaru Magistrate’s Court yesterday Senior-Sergeant S. King said the accused must have known he was not enrolled. He w*as a single man and he went about the country getting casual work. The Senior-Sergeant asked for a remand for a week as the police had written to Napier for his file and were now waiting for it.
In reply to a request from the accused for bail, the Senior-Sergeant said that if bail were granted, it would have to be substantial as the man had no fixed abode and he might be difficult to trace. The case was remanded until Wednesday. January 13. bail being fixed at £lOO on his own recognisance, and tw’o approved sureties of £5O. or one approved surety of £lOO. a condition being that he is to report at the Timaru Police Station daily.
