CHRISTIAN BELIEF

Statement Issued

(8.30 p.m.) LONDON. Jan. 4. A “statement of Christian belief” has been issued jointly by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Rev. Dr. J. S. Whale, Moderator of the Free Church Federal Council. The statement outlined Christian faith to meet “what we believe is the real need.” It occupied a column of small type in “Tire Times.” The statement says: “It is generally acknowledged that there is among our people —as gathered in military camps and elsewhere—widespread ignorance of what Christian faith is and their failure to see it as an intelligible and coherent view of life. Christians will find in the whole Bible an interpretation of the world and its history which they should try to work out in thought on conduct.” The signatories proceed to offer agreed suggestions as the basis of Christian co-operation in a variety of fields.
