TROUBLED GERMAN HEARTS
Hitler’s Latest Speech
(7.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 2. Even the dullest of German eyes do not miss the sharp contrast between Hitler's latest proclamation and his boasts of 1941 when he promised the consummation of the greatest victory in German history with a great new order for Europe, says the “New York Times” in an editorial.
The paper says: “Now he warns that the struggle is still hard. He says that Germany will never be conquered and will never capitulate. What must be the state of mind of the German people who, after an assurance that a triumphant peace was as good as won, are now told that the hardest tasks are still ahead. There must be millions of troubled German hearts as they contemplate the holocaust of German life, of the growing Russian power, of the British Air Force, the spectre of the unexpended resources of America and of the new world”
