WAIMATE HOLIDAY VISITORS
Mr R Taylor, who has been spending a holiday in Waimate, has returned to Blenheim. Mr A. Gabites, Timaru, was in Waimate for the New Year holidays. Mr V. W. Colville, headmaster of the Richmond School, Christchurch, who has been appointed headmaster of the Palmerston North Central School, was a former head teacher at Willowbridge. The Rev. Thomas Armour, of Christchurch, has taken a house in Waimate for a month. The Rev. S. J. Cooper and Mrs Cooper, of Christchurch, are holiday guests of the Rev. A. H. Acheson and Mrs Acheson. The Vicarage. Mr G. R. Richmond, Wellington, is spending a holiday with his parents, Mr and Mrs S. J. Richmond. Bombardier R. P. Murphy, a former member of the "Daily Advertiser” staff, who is serving with the Australian Forces, is now instructor at a battery in Queensland. Bombardier Murphy was mentioned in dispatches for his service in the Palestine campaign. Friends from Glenavy and Morven attended a function in the - ' Tr aitaki Hall to bid farewell to Mr J. B. Chapman on his departure to reside in Blenheim, after many years in the district. Among the speakers was the Rev. A. F. Sutherland, of the Morven Presbyterian Church, who thanked MiChapman and his family for their help in the work of the church. Messrs A. Cuthbertson. F. Mountford. J. McKenzie and D. G. Whittckcr, who presided, paid tributes to the part played in the life of the community by Mr Chapman and his family. A clock and a cheque were presented to Mr Chapman by residents of the district.
