Numerous Holiday Attractions

Timaru has again proved itself a popular holiday resort, and Caroline Bay has attracted large crowds of visitors.

In spite of petrol restrictions and clouds of war darkening the horizon, the various South Canterbury rivers and camping grounds have also been well patronised. People just seem to have “packed up their troubles in the old kit-bag," and are determined to enjoy this brief spell from camp discipline, factory fatigue, domestic cares and a universal anxiety. There were no accidents to mar the holiday period, and the large crowds on the streets and on Caroline Bay conducted themselves in an orderly manner. Only one Inebriate spent New Year’s Eve as the guest of His Majesty. The period of perfect holiday weather was broken yesterday, and many people wandered up and down the streets, or patronised the picture theatres.
