Sharp Fighting On Panay
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. 6.30 pm.) RUGBY, April 20. A United States war communique states: “The heavy artillery bombardment of Corregidor from 240 millimetre guns on the enemy in Batan and Cavite continued all day. Some casualties and damage resulted. Hostile air attacks decreased in number and intensity. Further landings of enemy troops have been made in the vicinity of San Joae on the south-west coast of Panay Island. In the northern part of the island sharp fighting is reported near Lambanao, where the enemy has been temporarily halted by counter-attacks.” Reports received by the War Department confirm the shelling of the coastline of Curacao (Netherlands West Indies) by an enemy submarine on Sunday.
