TEKAPO SALE

Keen Demand For Young Sheep Bulk Of Yarding Stays In District The total yarding at the Tekapo sale yesterday comprised 15,000 sheep, this figure being below the average of entries in the past. The quality of the yarding, however, was better than that of previous offerings. The attendance was below the average, this no doubt being caused by the petrol restrictions. There were buyers, however, from Otago. Mid-Canterbury and North Canterbury, but the bulk of the yarding was acquired by runholders in the Mackenzie district. There were keen buyers for all classes of young merino sheep, who were evidently anxious to replace snow losses. Prices in this section were slightly above the expectations of vendors. The inquiry for halfbred and stronger-woolled sheep was somewhat disappointing, and values lor this class were about 2/- a head below prices ruling at recent sales in the district. A tribute was paid the late Mr T. D. Burnett, former president of the Tekapo Saleyards Co., by Mr George Murray, and those present observed a short silence in recognition of his service to the settlers of the district. Principal sales were:— Simons Hill —97 2-tooth half bred ewes at 14/6; 609 4 and 5-year-old half-bred ewes at 4/-; 811 half bred wether lambs «at 10/6 to 12/1; 119 halfbred wether lambs at 8/-.
