GERALDINE TRIAL ALARM

ARRANGEMENTS MADE The emergency signal will be sounded at Geraldine for the first time next Thursday at 8.30 p.m. A blackout trial will take place at 9 p.m. Although the emergency signal (the ringing of all the bells for 10 minutes) will be given, E.P.S. members will not be required to respond, said the Chief Warden (Mr D. C. McKechnie). The blackout trial would be a real one. When the sirens were sounded residents should retire to their blackout room until the sounding of the “all clear.” An inspection would be made by the lighting wardens to see all houses complied with the regulations. ‘‘The big task of registering and indexing in their various sections the names of E.P.S. workers is now complete.” said Mr McKechnie. A meeting of the general executive had been arranged for a week hence, and they would probably agree to hold a trial mobilisation in the very near future. A FAMILY OF SWIMMERS A fine family record was achieved by the sons of Mr and Mrs F. W. Grayburn at the school swimming sports this week. The secondary championships were annexed by Peter (senior) and Gary (junior) and in the primary event Mark was successful. In the report of the sports, Gary should have been mentioned as winning the secondary junior boys’ title and not Peter as published. VITAL STATISTICS The vital statistics for February are as follows, the figures for the ’ corresponding period last year being given in parenthesis:—Births 6 (7); deaths 1 (1); marriages 2 (1).
