Latest Patriotic Appeal More than £lOO,OOO of the £250.000 which Canterbury aims to raise in the 1942 “Win The War” Appeal will go towards National Patriotic Fund Board expenditure, said the Mayor of Geraldine (Mr D. C. McKechnie). at a conference of patriotic chairmen in the Geraldine and Temuka zone. The Board's budget for £750.000 included the following expenditure: £317.000 for comforts and parcels for fit soldiers in New Zealand and overseas, £115.000 for sick and wounded soldiers, £170,000 for prisoners of war, and £150,000 for the relief of distress overseas. Canterbury, he said, required the remaining £150,000 for post war relief, help for next-of-kin, clubs and entertainment of soldiers wi.hin the province. It was agreed to ask each resident for a monthly contribution.
