ENEMY SUBMARINES
Operating Off U.S. Coast (10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 29. A Navy communique says: “Enemy submarines continue to operate off the east coast of the United States, and are reported as far south as Florida. Counter measures by our forces are increasingly effective.” An enemy submarine was sighted a short distance off Los Angeles harbour. Navy planes dropped two depth charges without apparent result. Patrol air surface craft scoured the area for several hours without sighting the hostile vessel.
