FAIRLIE
FREAK CARNATION A report in “The Timaru Herald” recently stated that a freak carnation had been growing at Whangarel. Mr K. Anderson of Fairlie has a freak carnation flowering In his garden. Two flowers of distinct colours are growing on the one stem. One flower is a light cream and the other is an apricot colour with bright red markings. PERSONAL Mr J. E. Shears, who lias been a resident of Fairlie for many years, is leaving shortly to take up a position on the staff of the Linen Flax factory at Washdyke. EMERGENCY HOSPITAL The recent appeal for beds and mattresses for an emergency hospital at Fairlle, did not haye the results expected. It is thought that many people have stretchers and beds which they feel they would make available when the emergency arises. An appeal is again being made .for beds and hospital material. Arrangements will be made by which all goods available can be collected when an emergency does arise. Any person who can help is asked to send in ■ word to . the Council office without delay.
