WET CANTEENS
Advocated For Military Reserve At the conclusion of the business regarding pensions at the conference of representatives of the Canterbury, Otago and Southland Branches of the Returned Services’ Association, held in Timaru yesterday, the delegates of the South Canterbury Association brought up the matter of the establishment of wet canteens at National Military Reserve camps, and the meeting agreed that the following telegram should be forwarded to Dominion headquarters of the Association:— “A meeting of the representatives of the Canterbury, Otago and Southland branches of the Returned Services’ Association unanimously urges headquarters to request the Government to Srovide wet canteens in all National tilitary Reserve Camps.” In sponsoring the proposal Mr J. G. Duncan, president of the South Canterbury Association, pointed out that the Reserve was mostly comprised of returned soldiers from the Great War. These men were justly entitled to wet canteens, especially as they were provided in mobilisation camps. Mr O. L. Ferens, of the Dunedin Association, said that his association had already taken action in the matter, and had telegraphed to Dominion headquarters asking that representations be placed before the proper authority that this facility be granted to those serving in the Reserve, as it was In a totally different category to the Tr- ritorial Force. Mr E. F. Willcox (Christchurch Association) said that when he had reported the matter to his executive, he had no doubt that similar action would be taken.
