PUBLIC SERVICE
Efficiency Tests
(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 28. The Government lias been recommended by the Public Service Commissioner (Mr J. H. Boys) to suspend the public service efficiency tests for the duration.
Mr Boyes announced this at a reunion of Taranaki public servants tonight.
"One of the first things upon which I had to make a decision on being appointed Commissioner was this bogey of efficiency tests,” said Mr Boyes. “I felt that in wartime it was not a fair thing, and this thought vas confirmed by a thought to the 3000 officers of the service who are undergoing a far greater test of efficiency overseas. Thus I concluded that it would be in the best interests of the individual as well as the service if the tests were abandoned for the duration.”
