OBITUARY
DRIVER R. C. TALBOT The many friends of Driver R. C. Talbot will regret to learn of his death on November 8 while serving with the forces in the Middle ~’a"c. Driver “Dick” Talbot, who was born in Timaru, was the eldest son of Mrs H. A. Talbot and the late Samuel Ernest Talbot, of Totara Downs. He was educated at St. Thomas’s Oamaru, Waimate High School, and Otago Boys' High School. During his school career he was a prominent athlete, winning the senior hurdles, high jump and pole vault events at the Otago Boys’ High School. He was also vice-captain of the Second XV and was prominent m cricket and swimming circles. Oh leaving school he was engaged in farm work to Otago and South Canterbury, later going to Australia where he followed the same pursuit. On returning to New Zealand he travelled Otago and Southland representing Hay’s Ltd., but became a well-known personality tn Timaru as a member of the staff of Messrs Brown Wood Motors, Ltd., where he served until joining the fo ces. Driver Talbot was held in high esteem by all who came in contact with him, being bright spirited, generous and kindly, and in business life was respected for the resourcefulness and ability he always exhibited.
