PLUNKET SOCIETY

“Rose Day” Appeal The Timaru Plunket Society' will make its annual “Rose Day” appeal to the public to-morrow when an effort will be made to raise funds to assist the valuable work of the Society. When the late Sir Truby King instituted his campaign to reduce the then heavy Infant mortality in the Dominion, he had to fight an uphill ba< le against prejudice and ignorance, but gradually the original scepticism against his new methods o' rearing babies, which proved so successful, gave way to enthusiastic support. From small beginnings the passage of the years has seen the Society make marked progress, primarily owing to the skill of the nurses and to the continued support of the public, without which it would be Impossible for the organisation to operate on its present Dominion-wide Timaru citizens have always been loyal to the Society, and, in spite of the many calls on the public owing to the war, the committee hopes that the customary support will be accorded >o the appeal. In addition to the street collection a depot will be opened next to the Bank of New Zealand, Stafford Street, where goods and produce will be sold in aid of the funds.
